Summary

A Saw Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining saws to cut materials to size, as well as performing routine maintenance on the saws. Other duties may include operating other machinery, such as routers and grinders. The Operator must be able to interpret technical drawings and use basic mathematics to calculate the dimensions of cuts.

Saw Operator Duties

  • Set up and operate a variety of saws to cut metal and other materials
  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications
  • File, grind and smooth rough edges and surfaces
  • Read blueprints and job orders to determine product specifications and tooling instructions
  • Select and install saw blades and other attachments according to specifications
  • Maintain saws, checking and replacing worn blades, drive belts and other parts
  • Keep records of daily production
  • Examine finished work pieces for defects
  • Ability to read technical drawings
  • Experience in the operation of saws
  • Knowledge of safety procedures
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of safety requirements
  • Experience in operating saw machinery
